In May our AGM was followed by an informative talk by Dr Bruce Evans on Visual Factors in Dyslexia. He described how, although not 'the cause' of dyslexia, visual problems may contribute to reading difficulties. He discussed common visual problems and the importance of assessment by an appropriately qualified and interested eye care practitioner. The notes for the talk can be found on his website.
Our speaker for the Autumn Term is Janice Wearmouth, an experienced teacher, researcher and author in the area of SEN and difficulties in literacy development. She was most recently Professor of Pedagogical Studies at Liverpool Hope University and is the author of several books including 'A Beginning Teacher's Guide to Special Educational Needs' and co-author with Gavin Read of 'Dyslexia and Literacy: Theory and Practice'. Details re this talk were not available in time for the newsletter so please check the Patoss website.
