The AGM was strongly attended and current issues keenly discussed. We said goodbye to two founding members of the committee and welcomed Steve Holmes and Anne-Louise Allen as the new Membership Secretary and Branch Secretary respectively. The highlight of the evening was a talk by Dr Kate Esser from the University of Plymouth and her lifelong experience of Dyspraxia.
We had a stand at an Assistive Technology event in the Plymouth Pavilions, hosted by Dolphin and attended by various representatives from assistive technology companies. We had the opportunity to give out general advice and information about assessment, learning difference issues and promote the work of PATOSS both nationally and at our local level.
Members attended the Crystal Chandelier Summer conference in Torquay to celebrate the success of this regional project in supporting teacher training in post-16 education in the South West. The keynote speaker was Toyah Wilcox who gave an inspirational, humorous and sometimes accusatory talk on her life and career alongside dyslexia and dyspraxia. Describing herself as the ‘teachers’ worst nightmare’ she gave a talk that an audience of any age range would be able to identify with.
Future programme is as follows:
We are once again having our Annual Cream Teas planned for members on Friday 20th June, 3-5pm, in the garden of ‘Mount Stonehouse’ (off Royal William Yard roundabout). Tickets £2.50 members, £3.00 non-members.
