On Wednesday, 15 March 2017, Peter Larkum gave a most interesting and lively talk entitled ‘Mental Health First Aid’. He gave practical ideas about how to identify and support young people who may be experiencing mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.

 

On Wednesday, 28 June 2017, a talk entitled ‘There is More to Vision than Meets The Eye’ will have been given by Smita Trivedi, an experienced optometrist. She will have explained the impact of vision difficulties on learning for children and young adults, including symptoms, information processing, motor development and social skills, as well as impacts on reading and writing abilities. She will also have discussed the need for vision evaluation and how possible treatment with lenses, prisms and optometric vision therapy can help to build more accurate and efficient visual skills.

 

 

Future events:

 

On 15 November 2017, we will have a presentation from Bernadette Carelse entitled ‘Enhancing Attention and Wellbeing for SEN Children: Using Mindfulness’. The content of her talk will have both theoretical and neurological background together with practical applications of using mindfulness with students.

 

The venue is: St. Mary’s Church Centre, Goat Lane, Eastrop, Basingstoke RG21 7PZ Junction 6 of the M3. Some parking available on-site and further parking available in the town centre, approx. 5 min walk.

 

The cost to attend is: £4 for National PATOSS members and TAs, LSAs and students on SpLD courses and £6 for others. Payment is by cash or cheque at the door and receipts are given. Alternatively an invoice can be sent beforehand. Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits are available from 4pm. Resources to hire can be viewed and blank playing cards are for sale.
