
There are 6 categories of membership as outlined below, with rates from January 2006:
Full Member (Full Benefits)
Open to- those holding the OCR/RSA Diploma (SpLD), BDA AMBDA or equivalent approved qualification, at the discretion of the Executive Committee. Any Full Member who is listed in the Index of Tutors must carry this membership.
- Professional Indemnity Insurance cover is mandatory for all members who teach or assess, wholly or in part, outside an LEA school, Independent School or Further Education or Higher Education Institution.
- Full members are entitled to full voting rights, group insurance, preferential rates on other insurance (details on application), plus the range of Patoss publications and reduced fees to Patoss national conferences and local events.
Full Membership annual subscription UK £71.25*
(*This amount is paid directly to Patoss. Those joining as Full Members (Full Benefits) will receive information about the Professional Indemnity Insurance cover and a proposal form from the Insurers then a further amount of £78.75 (£75 insurance premium + £3.75 insurance premium tax) should be paid directly to the insurers. )

Full Member (Limited Benefits)
Open to- those holding the OCR/RSA Diploma (SpLD), BDA AMBDA or equivalent approved qualification, at the discretion of the Executive Committee and whose sole teaching and assessment work is within an LEA school, Independent School or Further Education or Higher Education Institution and should be covered by the insurance policy of that institution.
- Full Membership (Limited Benefits) entitles you to full voting rights, preferential rates on insurance (details on application), plus the range of Patoss publications and reduced fees to Patoss national conferences and local events.

Associate Member (Extended Benefits)
Open to - those holding the OCR/RSA Certificate (SpLD), BDA ATS or equivalent approved qualification at the discretion of the Executive Committee and holding a further recognised qualification in assessment at a specified age range;
- Professional Indemnity Insurance cover is mandatory for certificate holders holding a further recognised qualification in assessment at a specified age range who teach or assess, wholly or in part, outside an LEA school, Independent School, of Further Education or Higher Education Institution.
- Associate Members are entitled to the range of Patoss publications, reduced fees to Patoss national conferences and some local events, preferential rates on insurance (details on application).
- Any Associate Member holding a further recognised qualification in assessment at a specified age range who is listed in the Index of Tutors must carry this membership.
Associate Membership (Extended Benefits) annual subscription UK £71.25 *

Associate Member
Open to- those holding the OCR/RSA Certificate (SpLD), BDA ATS or equivalent approved qualification at the discretion of the Executive Committee;
- teachers and other professionally qualified persons having professional interest in SpLD but without a specialist qualification, at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
- Associate Members are entitled to the range of Patoss publications, reduced fees to Patoss national conferences and local events, and preferential rates of insurance cover (details on application). Associate Membership does NOT qualify you for Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Student Member
Open to- students currently registered on a course leading to a recognised specialist qualification in SpLD.
- Student Members are entitled to the range of Patoss publications, reduced fees to Patoss national conferences and local events.
- Student Members are NOT covered by Patoss Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Corporate Member
Corporate Membership is open to schools, Colleges, Universities, etc., or other organisations with a professional interest in SpLD.
For more details of Corporate membership, contact the Membership Secretary using the Patoss address.
- Corporate Membership offers one copy of the Patoss Bulletin, published biannually (further copies are available for purchase), one copy of other Patoss publications including a members' handbook and regular newsletters, and two tickets to the Patoss Annual Conference at reduced members' rates.
- Corporate Membership is NOT covered by Patoss Professional Indemnity Insurance and Corporate Members, as such, cannot apply for SpLD Assessment Practising Certificates. [SpLD APCs are available on an individual membership only]
Applications for Corporate Membership should detail the organisation’s principal activity, its association with SpLD, and its website address as well as other information noted on the Membership Application form.

Overseas Members Overseas Membership is available for Full, Associate, Corporate and Student categories.- Overseas Members are entitled to the range of Patoss publications, reduced fees to Patoss national conferences and local events.
- Overseas Members are NOT covered by Patoss Professional Indemnity Insurance or the Legal Helpline.
Overseas Membership costs the membership fee quoted for the appropriate level as noted above PLUS an additional UK£25 to cover postage and handling charges.
