JCQ Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments: Developing a Whole-Centre Approach

A two-part course comprising two live webinars with Q&A, these sessions will help you prepare for inspections and ensure your centre meets JCQ requirements. 

Suitable for SENDCos, Heads of Centre, and others involved in managing the Access Arrangements process in secondary settings.


Getting access arrangements right for your school and students is one of the most important aspects of the role of a secondary SENDCo. The successful application and management of access arrangements is often regarded as ‘levelling the playing field’ for students with specific difficulties, allowing them to perform at their absolute best and ‘show what they know’.

Course Description

This training, delivered by two highly experienced secondary school SENDCos, will demystify the process by outlining the importance and requirements of JCQ regulations, demonstrating how the process works in school and the key role played by the SENDCo in ensuring effective access arrangements. You will be given handy tips, hints and proformas to ensure your access arrangements run smoothly within your school. This training will also explore effective study skills support and how to help your qualifying students make the most of their access arrangements.

Session 1:  Overview of the JCQ Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments and the in-school process

Session 2: Roles and responsibilities, with a particular focus on the role of the SENDCo, paperwork and implementation

Course Outcomes

Delegates will gain

  • An enhanced understanding of the processes and regulations set out in the JCQ Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments 2021-22
  • Understanding of changes to the regulations for 2021-22 and how these will affect your practice
  • An understanding of the roles of different members of the team, with a particular focus on the role of the SENDCo
  • Knowledge of tired and tested strategies to ensure the smooth-running of your access arrangements process
  • Knowledge of ways to support your qualifying students to improve their study skills and benefit fully from their access arrangements

This training course is for a total of two hours held as two x 1-hour sessions on two consecutive Tuesdays, 14 and 21 September 2021 from 3.30-430pm each day on GoToWebinar. Delegates will have access to the recording of the webinar for two weeks after to watch as many times as they like. If you cannot attend live on the day, you will still have access to the recordings on the same evening for two weeks from that date.

Course Materials

Electronic copies of the handouts will be provided but delegates will be responsible for printing off their own copies as this event is online.

Joining Instructions

Delegates will be sent a link to GoToWebinar where the course will be held a few days before. You do no need specialist software or an app to attend.
