Access to Learning Tutor

Salary: £25,928 - £29,150

GC is recruiting an Access to Learning Tutor to join the Access to Learning team within Learning Support at Gloucestershire College.

The primary purpose of this role is to assess learners for exam access arrangements and complete the required evidence documentation to support this, to enable learners across the College to access their examinations with reasonable adjustments. who have a wide range of additional learning needs (particularly those with Specific Learning Difficulties or sensory impairments) to access their curriculum and achieve good outcomes whilst at College.

The role works one-to-one with learners, who have a wide range of additional learning needs (particularly those with Specific Learning Difficulties or sensory impairments) to access their curriculum and achieve good outcomes whilst at College.

With specialist knowledge and experience, the Access to Learning team also provide strategies to develop independent learning and resilience for learners with additional needs. These strategies are not only targeted at the learners, but also for lecturers across the College to adopt improving curriculum accessibility.

The role of Access to Learning Tutor will include:
  • Carrying out and completing robust assessments to establish level of independence and further support requirements based on learning differences
  • Working with a range of profiles including 16-18, adult, apprentices and HE learners
  • Recommending exam access arrangements for learners with additional learning support needs, recording and completing supporting documents 
  • Providing robust rationale for support and risk-rating of learners following screening/assessment
Skills and Experience required:
  • Working within 16+ age range
  • 1:1 assessment of learners with SEND or additional learning needs
  • Knowledge of JCQ and exam board regulations/requirements relating to access arrangements and reasonable adjustments
  • DTTLS, PG-Cert or PGCE
  • Level 5 or 7 qualification in SpLD or working towards
  • Qualified to undertake diagnostic assessments and relevant current membership (PATOSS)
