Patoss Q&A’s by TeachPrimary & TeachSecondary

Teachwire the publishing house behind TeachPrimary and TeachSecondary publications ran a short Q&A feature on Patoss, for their March editions, just in time for the Education Show. Here is what they ran:

Why is there a need for an association like yours? Patoss was born out of necessity. When the SpLD level qualifications were first introduced, it became apparent that there was no organisation to support the interests of these newly qualified pioneers. Patoss stepped in to support these few, who gradually became the many, by providing them with specialist CPD, professional status and a collective voice.

Who can become a member? We support a full range of memberships for all levels of those interested in the field of SpLD, from Student to level 7 – our Full Professional Membership including supporting members.

What are the benefits of membership for teachers? Membership benefits range from expert mentoring, a hugely diverse range of industry respected CPD events, an abundance of highly relevant resources and test materials and professional indemnity insurance – and crucially, we have established an extensive and highly supportive community of fellow SpLD professionals with whom to network.

How does Patoss work to influence policy development? For over 25 years, Patoss has been challenging, guiding and influencing government, agency and industry professionals, consulting and advising on policy and practice, and has been a passionate industry ambassador for all those working in this highly challenging sphere of education.
