Assessing with easing of lockdown-Aug update

SASC has updated guidance on face-2-face assessments under easing of restrictions which we support and would recommend a similar approach to our members. Some organisations will be providing more specific advice to their employees but in any guidance the principles outlined below should be followed. This will impact different groups at different times so there is still a need for the SASC guidance on remote evaluation of need to be followed where face-2-face assessment is not possible and remote evaluations of need should only be used in those circumstances. They are not a substitute for full diagnostic assessments.

As there is a gradual easing of lockdown restrictions some face-to-face assessments will become possible. A careful assessment of risk for individuals and organisations should be undertaken. 

We also note and agree with the government's clear principle that 'workers should not be forced into an unsafe workplace and the health and safety of workers and clients, and public health, should not be put at risk.' 

Practitioners should look at their relevant government guidance and carefully consider risks and risk mitigation for themselves and their clients and make their own evaluation on that basis. 
As children and young people come back to school there will be opening opportunities to provide face-to-face assessments. However, we would advise all to take heed of current government guidance to schools and education settings. 
 The situation should be kept under constant review to assure best government advice is being followed.

 Remote evaluations of need are no substitute for full diagnostic assessments.
