Provision

Providing a wide range of events which are specially designed to meet the professional requirements of teachers and assessors. These encompass many courses which are accredited at post graduate level, including authorisation by SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC). All enable participants to progress towards a professional certificate in assessment (APC) and/or teaching (TPC).

Delivery

Our events are delivered by experienced practitioners who bring their unique contribution to the subject area, including a JCQ representative at our Access Arrangements courses.

The majority of our courses are delivered face to face, others incorporate blended learning. A selection can be delivered on-site for those who can’t make it to our national events and feel they could generate enough interest to hold an on-site event.

Accredited or Endorsed

Courses which are either accredited or endorsed are offered on an annual basis to both support professional registration and maintain professional currency. These are complimented by courses which respond to demands to maintain or update professional practice.

SASC approved training

SASC approved courses are for professionals who want to keep abreast of developments in the diagnostic assessment of SpLD, including those who wish to renew their Assessment Practising Certificate. We offer a broad range of SASC approved CPD events. [See All Events] We also have a partnership with the University of South Wales to provide a SASC approved module, which focusses on producing an effective assessment report.

 What is the AAA course?

The Patoss Assessing for Access Arrangements course (AAA), is accredited by the CPD Standards Office and is specifically for SENCos/educators to assess for access arrangements.

Candidates holding an SpLD specialist teaching qualification who complete the Patoss AAA can progress on to the Patoss-University of South Wales Module to gain an SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) which would enable them to carry out diagnostic assessments report for disabled students allowance.

Training Aim

Our programme reflects our belief in the importance of continuing professional development and aims to support professionals in the creation of an inclusive environment for SpLD people. We seek to facilitate schools, colleges, universities and workplaces to develop good practice which helps to comply with statutory and inspection requirements in addition to supporting their staff.

Recording of Training Events by Participants

Patoss does not permit recording of training events by participants.  As Patoss is committed to creating an inclusive learning environment any participant who needs to record the session for accessibility reasons is requested to seek permission two weeks prior to attending the course.

We may request evidence of the participant's barrier to learning.  The participant will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement to confirm that any information gained from a recording cannot be used for commercial purpose. Additionally, in such circumstances, we would have to seek the permission both the trainers and other participants in the room as they may disclose information which is confidential in nature. We have a duty of care to protect participants who are attending courses, which includes protecting any confidential information they wish to discuss.  This duty of care requires us to remove from the recording any information which is confidential in nature. We also recognise our duty of care in terms of supporting people with accessibility requirements.  The non-disclosure agreement aims to protect and enable all parties to share information in a professional and inclusive environment where no one person’s rights are disadvantaged.
