This webinar will be exploring the assessment of reading skills in higher education

Introduction

This course will help both newly qualified specialist teacher assessors or those assessors wishing to refresh their professional skills and knowledge. The course will primarily focus on the use of the Adult Reading Test (ART 2) to assess reading comprehension, exploring both quantitative and qualitative evidence.

Course Description

The webinar will cover:

The importance of background information and how to gather the information neededThis will specifically relate to reading skills.

The assessment of reading skills.

With reference to the most recent SASC guidance, a brief overview will be given of selected tests that can be used to assess reading skills at higher education level. Following this, we will explore the use of the UK normed Adult Reading Test Second Edition (ART 2) to assess reading comprehension using continuous prose (silent), and oral reading of continuous prose (qualitative analysis).

Case Study

A case study will be used to explore a student’s reading profile, from background information through to recommendations for higher education.

At the end of the presentation, you will be encouraged to reflect on what you have learnt and how this will impact on your practice. This will support the completion of your CPD log in support of an application for APC renewal.
