Dyslexia Tutor

Salary: £23,154 - £37,487 per Annum

Description:

South and City College Birmingham is a vocational college that provides courses and training to around 12,000 students and have 8 campuses and centres across Birmingham.  The college has over 1000 members of staff which make all of this possible.

Aims of Job/Job Purpose

To work as part of the Additional Learning Support Team within Student Services to provide expertise in aspects of dyslexia, including assessment, identification and support. The aim is to meet the needs of students and their tutors to ensure successful completion of their chosen course of study

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

To deliver high quality support to students identified as experiencing barriers to learning e.g. English and Math’s, dyslexia, dyscalculia: SPLD/ SLCN (Specific Learning difficulty) (Speech, Language, Communication Need)

  • · To assist in identifying students requiring one to one, small group and/or classroom support. 
  • To identify where applicable through referrals, emerging needs in regard to SPLD/ SLCN
  • To organise and undertake the screening and assessing of students referred for possible Access Arrangements for examinations
  • · Complete Applications for Awarding Body Approval for Access Arrangements
  • · Interpret reports and feedback to students and staff as appropriate
  • · Liaise with internal and external agencies and individuals as appropriate
  • · Identify appropriate types of support for students in liaison with managers and tutors
  • · Provide and update information to support students, staff and managers
  • · Support in the coordination of organising support for students entitled to Access Arrangements during examination periods
  • · Any other duties commensurate to the grade.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

a) Comply with internal and external quality standards and contribute to the College’s strategic aims.

b) Comply with college policies and procedures and health and safety regulations.

c) Support the safeguarding and promotion of students’ welfare.

d) Maintain confidentiality in relation to all College information and to comply with Data Protection Legislation.

e) Participate in the College’s Appraisal scheme and undertake any training as required.

f) Support and actively participate in the implementation of the College’s Equal Opportunity policies
