Request for help with research

As well as working part-time as a specialist teacher and access arrangement assessor in mainstream secondary education in a local school, I am a full PATOSS member, and part-time doctoral research student with the Institute of Education at the University of Reading. I am writing to give information about my PhD research into using Speech Recognition Software (SRS) with students with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) in mainstream secondary schools with significant writing difficulties. I am interested in all aspects of scribing support in school, and what it means for members of the school community, especially the pupils, and Special Educational Needs Coordinators. Speech Recognition Software has potential as an assistive technology, but so far evidence on its use is mixed. The JCQ are actively promoting the use of computer software as an access arrangement, and research to further our understanding in this area is important. As the final project in my mixed methods research, I am hoping to carry out a small number of 1-1 interviews with mainstream secondary school SENCOs over the phone or online, lasting between thirty minutes and an hour. If you would be interested in finding out more about this research, with no obligation for further involvement, please email me:
